In short: The Rate Gap provides educational estimates, not financial advice. Our rate benchmarks are directional, not precise. Your actual earnings depend on many factors we can't predict. Past results of other freelancers don't guarantee your future results.

Rate Benchmarks Are Estimates

The rate ranges, market benchmarks, and "undercharging gap" calculations provided by The Rate Gap are estimates based on aggregated market data and our proprietary analytical model. They are not sourced from a live salary database, government labor statistics, or verified payroll data. They are directional indicators intended to help you evaluate your pricing, not definitive market prices.

Actual freelance rates vary significantly based on factors including but not limited to: your geographic location, your specific niche or specialization within a skill category, the quality and relevance of your portfolio, your personal network and reputation, local market conditions, economic cycles, and client-specific budget constraints.

No Earnings Guarantee

The "you're leaving $X/year on the table" calculation is a projection based on the difference between your reported rate and the estimated market midpoint, multiplied by an assumed 30 billable hours per week over 52 weeks. This is not a guarantee that raising your rate will result in that additional income. Raising rates may affect your close rate, client volume, or other business dynamics in ways we cannot predict.

Any income examples, revenue projections, or earnings referenced in our content, marketing materials, or reports represent potential outcomes and are not promises or guarantees of results.

Automated Content Generation

Your diagnostic report is generated by an automated content system based on the information you provide in the intake form. While we've invested significantly in tuning the system to produce high-quality, personalized output, automated content may occasionally contain inaccuracies, generalizations, or recommendations that may not be applicable to your specific situation.

The positioning statements, client profiles, and action plans in your diagnostic are starting points for your own evaluation, not directives. You should exercise your own professional judgment before implementing any recommendations.

Not Professional Advice

The Rate Gap does not provide financial, legal, tax, or career advice. The diagnostic and playbook are educational tools designed to give you a framework for evaluating your freelance pricing. For specific financial, legal, or tax guidance related to your freelance business, consult a qualified professional.

Client Acquisition Playbook

The proposal templates, pricing scripts, outreach sequences, and other materials in the Client Acquisition Playbook are provided as examples and frameworks. Their effectiveness depends on your execution, your market, your positioning, and many other factors. They are not guaranteed to produce specific results.

Freelance Rate Index

The Freelance Rate Index displays aggregated, self-reported data from users of our free rate check tool. This data has inherent limitations: it is self-reported and not independently verified, it may contain selection bias (freelancers who seek rate information may be systematically different from those who don't), and sample sizes for specific skill/experience/client combinations may be small. The Index should be used as one reference point among many, not as a definitive source.

Third-Party Content

Our blog articles, SEO content, and marketing materials may reference third-party data, reports, or statistics. We make reasonable efforts to cite accurate and current sources, but we are not responsible for the accuracy of third-party data.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, The Rate Gap and its owners, operators, and affiliates shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising from your use of the Service or your reliance on any information provided through the Service, including but not limited to lost profits, lost clients, or business disruption.
